Bakey has cemented his name as one of the coldest rising talents in bass music.
Built on respect for soundsystem and UK club culture, he takes weighty cues from El-B,
Breakage, Zed Bias & Calibre. His sets arrange vivid fragments from the golden age of
Leeds’s underground scene with a discography that distils powerful low-end, tight drums
and driving hooks that have become his hallmark. Leeds shaped him as an artist, from his
first SUBDUB on Sinai Soundsystem and closing out Wire Club and The Old Red Bus
Station, to co-founding Triptych with collaborator mage, hosting pioneering artists across
the spectrum of UK club music.
His journey has since taken him to Glastonbury, Gottwood, Boomtown, Waterworks and
Outlook Origins, a Boiler Room headline in Naarm/Melbourne, a celebrated collaboration
with Capo Lee on the ‘AM To PM’ EP, and breakthrough recognition as DJ Mag’s
Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2023. Joining The Warehouse Project as a 2024
resident, he became the first artist signed to their label with ‘Wouldn’t Believe’ and
follow-up ‘International Man’ in collaboration with Champion & Jamakabi Hailing the
journey so far, his debut album Tribute arrived after headline shows in Bristol, Leeds and
London, celebrating the soundsystem culture at the heart of his sound, and landing both
Mixmag and BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix milestones. With roots deep in smoky basements
and white-label energy, Bakey’s focus remains fixed on pushing the future of bass music.
